Partner & Finances
A delicate topic to discuss for sure!
Research data shows that we hardly talk about finance with our partners. There are stories where the partner helps lift up the financial scene and there are stories where the partner blew up the financial scene.
Is you partner lifting you up or not? Do you have an enabler or a disabler at home? Do you even talk about these aspects?
A few questions to ponder
What do individuals earn? (Zero is also an answer and a great answer)
What are the financial habits of each individual?
What are the lifestyle choices of each individual?
What is common spend?
Who is responsible for what?
Who takes care of finances? What are their strengths and weaknesses?
Do you have a combined financial goal?
What is the financial literacy of the involved parties?
Is there old money (inheritance or dowry) involved in the deal? (I am just asking 🤷🏽♀️you to consider everything)
These factors play a big role in your financial independence strategy and action. If you do not have a partner yet, think about these angles from the beginning. I shall leave it there for you to ponder and take the first step to make the partnership work in finances as well. If you are already blessed with a supportive partner half your battle is won.
In my story, my husband has been an amazing partner. We rise and fall together. We work with our strengths and weaknesses. We take equal responsibility to make it work. As the cliche goes, we do it together, till death we part.
A marriage brings a lot of things together, money is also one of them.
