I stumbled upon this idea when i was getting two pay checks in a month. Yes, I was working and paying taxes in America at that time.
I forget to cash in the check as I was used to Indian ways of salary (once a month). This happened in a row for 3 months. At the end of 3 months, I suddenly had 3 unused pay checks. I called it as savings and stashed it into an account that is not my usual checking account. Thank god we didn’t have automatic deposits in those days. I was checks and there was room for such serendipitous errors.
I agree, It was hard to live in one pay check but I somehow managed it. That is when i realised, if push comes to shove, I could manage with half a pay check. I was able to work backwards with half a pay. This was an epiphany for me. I started doing this with my husband’s pay check as well. He was furious but I told him it is just an experiment 😉This is how i get away with stuff.
In just 6 months, we had a lot of unused cash by living in half a pay check. From then on, I brought in a rule at our home. Whatever money comes in, in which ever fashion, ruthlessly I will take 50% of it and stash it away into a place I can’t withdraw without a number of procedures. Very brutal but it works. You can try it.
We are amazing adaptable animals. We can work backwards with anything.
🥂to adaptability!
