Why Worry?
So, did you care about your financial wellbeing? Were you able to figure out a tangible score on where you stand using the assessment I shared yesterday? How is the number making you feel? Did you wonder why we worry so much about money? Should we?
I had similar questions a few years ago as my biggest source of anxiety was my bank balance. I searched for answers. I badly want the anxiety to go away. I searched for a state inside me where I can be peaceful about things despite the bank balance. I want to hunt down that secret. The journey with money began there.
As a student of cognitive psychology, little did i know that the answers were hidden in the human nature. Yes, money worries stem from our survival instinct. The day money is lifted from equation the worry for money will also be lifted. This is why kids don’t worry so much about money. It is more an adult thing.
Lack of money threatens our survival and hence we are extremely stressed.
Then why do people whose survival is well taken care also so stressed about money you may ask? The answer is still survival. Their level of survival may be different than yours. It may be about looking good in front of friends and not so much about will I have breakfast today?
Anything that does not provide us food, water, shelter, security, stability, love, belonging, self esteem and actualisation we don’t like it. The minute we decouple money from all the above, we will care less about money. The problem is money is the common denominator to all our needs and wants. So either we get enlightened or we get the necessary money and become free from this worry. The former is hard. Let us try the later in this series.
🥂to survival!
