Exercise
How can we not talk about exercises when we talk weight loss eh π
Calorie in & Calorie out is a generalised formula we use for weight loss discussions. Exercises fit into this formula because they help you with calorie out. Simple way is grinding in the gym π
Truth to be told, your exercise is not necessary for weight loss. I have lost weight 15+ kgs in 5 months without even stepping into a gym. It is possible. This is because 80% of your weight loss is in your intake (quality and quantity).
As human beings we tend to focus so much on outcomes and tangibilities (thanks to outcome fallacy bias), we want to believe that working on output gives us better results. Exercise is not needed for weight loss.
All said and done, exercise is great for our human body. Human bodies are designed to move. We have a brain because we can move. Look around you, all things move will have a brain π€·π½ββοΈ So the movement certainly helps in your wellbeing (brain health, good sleep etc) but need not help you in weight loss.
What we do when we want to lose weight?
We join a gym. We join a cross fit. We join zumba. We run a marathon etc. The move is brilliant because you have paid money and shown your commitment and skin in the game. Period. Your gym trainers will make you feel like shit the first day to show you how bad you are else you will not listen to them. With that health status quo if you push your body to lift or cross fit to run, you will be extremely tired and you will lose your shit. No wonder all gyms are designed for 30% capacity only because 70% will not show up anyways. Marathon with a local running group to loose weight is a bad idea. I tried it and I know it sucked.
From a biological angle, you canβt lose weight when you are unhealthy. You need to be healthy to lose weight. When you are unhealthy donβt introduce complex movements to your body, it will do you more harm than good.
It is important you are slow and steady when it comes to weight loss project. There is a sequence and order to how you must do things. At best you can walk for starters. Anything more will kill your spirit to lose weight. So no exercise for weight loss in the beginning. When you are healthy and energetic we will introduce them. Not now. We need it to be simple and easy. Let us stay away from hardship bias for now.
As a behavioural architect, i am saying this: Stay away from hardship. You need to slowly develop your habits and routines to get the outcome you want. Your output is dependent upon your input.
π₯to input!
Yo! Thanks for reading. Means a lot to me as attention is the hardest currency π
